THE DEEP WORK SUMMERY | SHALLOW WORK | HOW TO GET FOCUS | WHY DEEP WORK IS IMPORTANT
THE DEEP WORK
If we want to thrive in the upcoming economic conditions or survive in the difficult phase of the looming economy then what should be done?
| "IF YOU CAN'T LEARN, YOU CAN'T |THRIVE. IF YOU DON'T PRODUCE YOU |WON'T THRIVE NO MATTERS HOW |SKILLED OR TALENTED YOU ARE."
One of the richest persons on earth Bill Gates and the famous author of a book series J.K Rowling (author of Harry potter) is known by the whole world,WHY?
There are many programmers in the world and many good writers too,but WHY THIS TWO ARE FAMOUS?
The answer to all these questions is a technique they used known as DEEP WORK. So, a question arises: what is Deep work?
INTRODUCTION:
Deep work,is a book written by Cal Newport that teaches the method of doing highly productive work & four techniques of doing work full of Focus.
WHAT IS DEEP WORK ?
By Newport's definition, deep work refers to: “Professional activity performed in a state of destruction -free concentration that pushes your cognitive capabilities to their limit. ... “Non-cognitively demanding, logistical-style tasks, often performed while distracted.
|" WHO ARE YOU,WHAT YOU |THINK,FEEL,AND DO,IS THE SUM OF |WHAT YOU FOCUS ON "
Why is Deep Work Important ?
Deep work is so important because without it, you'll constantly find yourself caught in shallow, unimportant tasks and never make progress on anything that actually matters. It's really hard to do things well without deep work. That's the reason for performing deep work.
The other way to deal with any, TASK is Shallow work.
WHAT IS'T DEEP WORK?
SHALLOW WORK
Shallow work is a concept coined by Cal Newport, He defines it as “non-cognitive, logistical or minor duties performed in a state of distraction”. They require little cognitive effort and it is usually easy to replicate – things like replying to emails, looking at websites, using social media, filling
out forms, and sitting passively in meetings.

Some Important Points From Deep work :
(1) MYELIN WORKOUT :
Myelin is a fatty nerve tissue that works like an insulator in the brain. Many research proved that, It gets stronger while performing work full of Focus . To make it stronger we have to perform deep work but from the beginning it's difficult to perform Deep work so,for the starting you can practice it from doing compact things for e.g: carry out it when to do your studies, execute it while preparing any project ..
(2) ATTENTION RESIDUE :
-tasking causes attention residue:
Attention Residue:
everytime you're switching from one task to another, a
residue of your attention remains stuck thinking about the previous task.
This makes it hard to work with the necessary focus and intensity required for deep work on the new task.
SOLUTION:
The solution of it, is to prepare TIME BLOCKS, by this you will find yourself in a task/work with full focus and you also see the high magnitude of outputs, you have to just determine your task and work according to it without any distribution & you will see it's high outputs or result.
AWAY FROM DISTRACTION :
It means cutting yourself from social media and Concentrating on the work you have to do. Don't use the internet for fun like Mindless Scrolling on Social Media, instead make use of it to improve your productivity.
REMEMBER:
In particular, by consolidating his work into intense and uninterrupted pulses, he's leveraging the following law of productivity: High-Quality Work Produced = (Time Spent) x (Intensity of Focus).
|"CLARITY ABOUT WHAT'S MATTER PROVIDE CLARITY |ABOUT WHAT DOES NOT."
(3) ROUTINE :
Every high perfumer has a daily routine.
Which make them productive & provide a favorable time for their upliftment in their sector of work.
Leaders know that success doesn't come by working day-night or by doing extraordinary tasks,it comes when we perform a routine related to our goals. A compact step to our dreams on a regular basis that shows a big difference rather than so called hard work.
4 WAYS TO STRONG FOCUS DEEP WORK
MONASTIC APPROACH :
Monastic comes from monastery-where monks live. This approach means shutting off completely, aka moving to a cabin in the woods until you novel.
Monastic gives you a high output performance which can't be replaced by others. In this approach we have to be like a monk;who never gets disturb from any stuff and does any of the tasks with full focus.
BILL GATES used this method while making a basic program for a Billion Dollar company named as MICROSOFT. Author says Bill used to sleep on his desk & take a nap and again start his work for a long period of time.
BIMODAL APPROACH :
Still prioritizon deep work, aka 4-6 hours blocks a day for deep work. However once the time block is over, you're free to do anything else.
This philosophy asks that you divide your time, dedicating some clearly defined stretches to deep pursuits and leaving the rest open to everything else. During the deep time, the bimodal worker will act monastically — seeking intense and uninterrupted concentration.
In the 1920’s, psychologist Carl Jung built a special rustic stone house outside the small town of Bolligen, Switzerland where he could do his work in privacy and seclusion.
He was unavailable to anyone — comically, his family members would have to ring a bell from their neighboring house to alert him a meal was ready.
Jung spent weeks at a time in near-total isolation. But after such periods, he would return to his incredibly busy life as a researcher and psychologist, complete with the mundane and many distractions and obligations such a life generally has.
|Bimodal — periods of extreme isolation and |concentration balanced with regular day-to-day |obligations of a busy worker.
RHYTHMIC APPROACH :
Chunks your deep work into smaller, manageable time blocks. Similar to the pomodoro technique, you focus on the intense focus of short break.
The Rhythmic Philosophy of Deep Work Scheduling is ideal for individuals with a fairly static schedule. If you can anticipate what most of your days will look like, it’s feasible to block off several hours every day for deep work, thereby getting into a daily “rhythm”, and leaving the rest of your hours for shallow work.
JOURNALISTS APPROACH :
When all else fails, use this approach. This simply says to use any unexpected toward deep work.
The Journalistic Philosophy of Deep Work Scheduling is an option for people who are constantly on the move with little to no regularity to their days. This method demands vigilance with your time and the keen ability to notice natural ebbs and flows in your day where you may be able to fit in 30 minutes or an hour or two of deep work. Unfortunately, this method is not for beginners and is likely to fail for people who are not experienced in deep work.
CONCLUSION:
DEEP WORK:
Professional activity performed in a state of destruction -free concentration that pushes your cognitive capabilities to their limit.
SHALLOW WORK:
non-cognitive, logistical or minor duties performed in a state of distraction.
